NTLite 1.5 wishlist

Not a suggestion for 1.5 but for any build. Services page, i am finding it difficult to see the difference between removed services and remaining services even with my glasses on. If anyone agrees, please hit the Like. :)

edit - I know what a greyed out service is, it is either locked or marked for removal and with my somewhat buggered eyesight(with and without glasses) i am having trouble seeing what is greyed out and what isnt. I wanted to see(no pun) if anyone else was having the same issue. If yes, my eyes are still ok(ish), if No, then i will shut and carry on.

May be needs an update (would you like another color?) but there is in the tab:
Configure - Services

When a service component is removed, the tweak name is greyed out and you can´t change the default tweak.

Color meaning description would go in the toolbar may be? (i assume that red text in updates means 'incompatible'), today i added CU 15063.608.1.23 x64 to build 15063 x64 (version 1703) and got red colored, i knew it why after reading the Analyze icon's description, kb4022405 is needed for CU 15063.

- multi-edition processing at the same time, if on the same image for now (Perhaps if it does not go otherwise the possibility NTLite 2x to start)
- ability to add ISO to the Source page, at least prompt to auto-extract to some Folder
- auto-update tool (alpha/beta/release)
- Windows Updates listing and download

+1

What really drives me nuts: In the components removal window, when i click on a component only the name gets highlighted but not the full line. UX wise it would be better that the whole line is highlighted:

I voted for more removals. Specifically I am thinking along the lines of things that have been listed and show up as "Explicit removal not supported." but exist in all versions of Windows 7+. Things like IPv6 (nettun), NetBIOS over TCP/IP and the other various WAN miniports for things like Agile VPN, Async MAC, L2TP, PPoE, PPTP, SSTP, etc. that could really use your Midas touch instead of just teasing us by graying them out! :p

Update: I also like the SysWOW64 subsystem removal, as an option, idea. Sadly I think it'd be many years before I could actually make use of it myself (I've gotta be able to play my old games, etc.. that just don't have x64 versions!) for anything but very specific builds :-/

I am no expert user, but would be nice if you can configure the default Windows settings without having to add registry files, I know, we probably all got collections, but the tweaks in winreducer are quite handy to use if you ask me.
Also, I don't know if this is possible already, but would be nice to be able to create a WinPE where you can configure everything as well, but I think this is outside the scope of NTLite probably, but like a way to create a WinX live cd with default applications installed, settings done etc. That's easy to create rescue media but also would be good for temporary systems where you want to run per each user.
And a bit more help information to support the no expert users like myself :) but ignore me if this all sounds silly lol

[...] would be nice if you can configure the default Windows settings without having to add registry files [...]
You can do it by selecting the tweaks on the left side tabs Services, Local Machine & Users (from time to time are added more tweaks, i expect to see about 10 more on the next soon releases).

[...] the tweaks in winreducer are quite handy to use if you ask me[...]
winreducer is a very complicated and annoying tool from the start not worth to download it, it asks for activation on every click, not user friendly, there is no tweaks nor language setting :(

NTLite is a great "Ready to go" tool, download and install in win 7 or 10 and choose your language in File menu, Settings option. Very user friendly and still polishing where is possible.

NTLite supports Windows 10 (Build 170922 tested) v.1709 Redstone 3 Fall Creators Update to be released in October 17, 2017

[...] would be nice to be able to create a WinPE where you can configure everything as well, but I think this is outside the scope of NTLite probably, but like a way to create a WinX live cd with default applications installed, settings done etc.[...]
I think it is not possible, programs are not ready to add/integrate in WinPE and most of them needs (not ready for PE) third party environments (java, .NET, Visual, etc).
Use 'Windows To Go' instead

And a bit more help information to support the no expert users like myself :) but ignore me if this all sounds silly lol
Wich kind of help you need?

NTLite is basically a tool to integrate updates, slim and tweak windows online (already installed) and installation sources and add to post-setup installers (moded or by specific command execution) and other actions too.

I am completely self taught with W7 and NTLite and my barebone presets were built from the ground upwards, all my own work, not a single component was gleamed from anyone elses preset :p. Apart from keeping 2 fonts found by fishingfish to cause issues i had not had myself. Self discovery is satisfying but hard work. Years of nLiting the tits out of XP did help though :D.

Haha, nice start of the day for me with that quote :)

@Kasual: I was not saying in any way that winreducer is better or comparable, I was just expressing my opinion about the (visual) tweaks, where you can configure start, task and control panel and other menu's via built-in tweaks - most are registry settings I think and can be included easily in NTLite, but you need to find them or have them, it was just my thought it would be easy if they are built-in.

As for the help, not every component, service or item is explained yet and some have very little info, would be nice to see that in the future more detailed, so you can fully understand what exactly you are removing/configuring.

@Adam, post-setup live-only removals, yeah that would be interesting, bit convoluted due to licensing unfortunately. Having that on the back burner for now.

@Clanger & @ahazuarus, yeah WIM capture is for later, maybe in v1.6/7, this one seems wi

@Paraf, thanks for the suggestion and the compliment

@Filippotosi, interesting, what is the benefit of those packs to maybe expand post-setup/registry page?

@Clanger, so dim services more, ok, noted, thx. Have you tried a different theme?

@Velocet, yeah that is the checkbox-ed row UI control limitation. Will retry polishing that, thx.

@e_web, miniports are mostly removed with "Routing and Remote Access support" component, just individually they are not. Let me know if you still have them after that and which Windows is that. It is locked on Win7 due to some Device Manager mess.

@Brutser, more tweaks, gotcha, maybe in the next beta, for now will keep on adding tweaks in parallel from time to time.
As for WinPE config, you can do that, just open it like any other image and tweak it. I cannot pre-install apps into it, that would be too advanced/messy/specific, capturing reg and file changes by the installer and integrating that.
For lack of component descriptions, can you please refer a few which are unclear and would need more info?

@maszd, editing WIM Edition title, yes useful a bit, but for now no time for it. Can't promise when, noted.

Thanks.

Nuhi, not dim, ermm, will pm later, i have a slavemaster on my case right now :D

Edit - I was using the Default theme. I am going to have to shut and carry on, my eyes are buggered :(. Dimming them a bit may help though and or increasing the font size for all services and keeping the greyed outs at the current font size. Increasing the screen to 125% helps but i cant have it at 125 all the time.

AJ77 asked in post no13 "An option to import wfw-files (export-file from windows-firewall) would be nice." on the 1.5 wishlist thread. I cant use Windows Firewall Control on every configuration because it needs a .NETand it is incompatible with NDIS drivers which my broadband dongle uses but it is perfect to set Windows Firewall settings.

Like AJ77 i want to get custom rules into Windows Firewall somehow. Either by AJ's suggestion or by capturing a custom wim where i have used WFC to set those rules up. Ivau helped me in setting up WFC(on the old forum) and i may not want to keep WFC and its .NET from the final image.

If you asked me how i would rate this wish, id put it as no1 because its security related. :)

My wish for 1.5 is command line support, discussed here before some time on legacy forum.

I voted "Parallel processing of image editions (in the future session tab support)" as this is really awesome idea

Dear Nuhi, the idea would be to create some packages (.ntlite?) which are zipped archives with files, registry settings and copy directives.
This is far more flexible than using switchless installers or reg files, as you can build your own packages easily. I can show you more details if you are interested in evaluating this.

Ah, I forgot: it would be nice to complete missing descriptions for removable components, in particular apps, as it is not straightforward to understand what they are meant for.

Where you saw a comparison, i saw descriptions.

Where you saw an opinion, i saw spam because never found the tweaks you mentioned.

Sorry for misunderstanding.

I want to add custom Power Plan configurations during setup. -->link for w7<-- , -->link for w8.1<-- and -->link for w10<--. The configurators create a bat file. Can i currently add that bat file to Post Setup, or the commands? or could you add those options to 1.5beta? I would find that handy servicing a single machine, i would have thought it would be handy for those whose service multiple machines. No so much a question or suggestion either, just floating a thought. Link added on my Interesting Things page. :)

I want to keep video thumbnails. I think its Windows Media Player that is the component needed, but i want to find if another sub component is what is needed, i dont use WMP, only 3rd party tools.

I want to save the Components list of a mounted image as a text(.txt) file, handy for comparing presets etc. :) ie

Drivers
-Bluetooth Radios - MIcrosoft bth.inf

I would also like to be able to copy a component name, any notes and extra info. xx
