Setting up installation error (Win 7 USB)

So we are using Win 7 & adding the USB drivers to it so it won't get blocked by the new MSI MB on my desktop. Yesterday we got 2 errors & it wouldn't install the drivers so I had no USB mouse or keyboard.

We started from scratch & cleaned everything out.

Today we added the drivers to the Win 7 image & tried to add the drivers to the Win PE image and we got this error. I haven't tested yet if it will work on the new desktop.

Here's the SS - https://i.imgur.com/4OkcqzK.png

I hope you can help with this. I've been trying to get my desktop up & running for almost a week now.

TIA

P.S. We are installing it on the stick using Rufus now. I hope it works as is.

Before installing W7 on newer motherboards, you need to search online if other users have successfully found driver support.
Some models appear to work better than others. The specific error you posted indicates the same driver already exists in the install image.

One workaround is moving the keyboard & mouse to a non-USB3 port on the motherboard, or purchasing a PCI-based USB adapter card that comes with W7 driver support (which you can integrate using NTLite).

For example:
4 Ports Superspeed 5Gbps USB 3.0 PCI Express Expansion Card for Windows 11, 10, 8.x, 7, Vista, XP Desktop PCs, Built in Self-Powered Technology, No Need Additional Power Supply (FS-U4-Pro)

Hi,

So I posted 2 other threads. It's 100% that it won't install the USB drivers. We put them the stick twice, the 2nd time with a clean install & it's not letting me type or use my mouse for the Win 7 installation.

Please help.

Thanks

Please don't open multiple threads on the same topic. You have provided no details on your MSI motherboard model, or which USB drivers you're trying to add. Other users have made W7 work, it depends on the specific motherboard.

If you did a forum search, that would be obvious to see.

We have done tons of searches.

Yes I know what that NTLite error means, but he was trying to put it on the PE & I think on the Win 7 or something so it was on both. This is beyond my scope of knowledge & he's new to this too (my website coder).

I already purchased a PS2 mouse (cheap one since I don't need it for anything but this) & it didn't work.

The guy who put the computer together is coming tomorrow (I hope) to put something on the back he forgot to do, so I want to see if he can figure it out b/c PS2 adapter he sold me used didn't work either. sigh I'm starting to bleed money.

I didn't get you the MB b/c we thought you were only going to help with NTLite.

I didn't want to have to spend more money & I'm not in the US, so I have to see if I can get anything of good quality here, otherwise I'd have to pay $50 & wait 3 weeks just to get anything I buy Stateside, although I could take a look at what NewEgg has b/c they ship to Mx, although then I have to pay huge prices for duty & shipping.

We were hoping doing this with NTLite would work.

I can also buy another PS2 mouse (HP this time), but who knows if that's going to work & it will take a week to get here.

Do you think the computer guy did something so the PS2 port isn't working properly?

Thanks, & I only opened multiple threads b/c they weren't all the same.

WIN-RAID forum and other sources normally suggest the canonkong USB3 driver.

1. One approach is to bypass adding drivers to W7's boot.wim, and instead borrow a W10 ISO which has a newer boot.wim. Then you replace W10's sources\install.wim with your updated W7 install.wim. Boot from the W10 ISO, and install your W7 image.

2. Integrate the SHA-2 update in the W7 install.wim, KB2864202

3. Extract the Canonkong driver files.
4. From NTLite's Drivers screen, add the driver folder and Apply changes.

I have that motherboard. I was preparing to install Win7 on it, but sadly it didn't want to install on 4K sectors (which I converted my NVME drive to) and I didn't want to convert back.

I followed this guide and I think it got until the end (restart or second restart and then BSOD). USB mouse and keyboard were working, USB drive was seen all the time. Or maybe it was because I followed the "modern" metod there (uses Win10 Boot.wim as garlin says above)... I guess I'll never know. :)

Also, this looks promising to me. OurFreeSociety , the USB drivers you linked are too old I think. Or rather, there was a change after Zen 2 when AMD abandoned Win7.

There's the long MDL thread which you can try to pick out what you need.
https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/usb-3-xhci-driver-stack-for-windows-7.81934/

Ok, thanks to ALL.

So in the end whatver you guys said got Chris thinking & he found something with the Win 7 & drivers already installed, ONLY on archieve.org which makes sense to me that they are hiding them there, but it turned out to be Win 7 ultimate & I wanted pro, but I had no choice. sigh

So Win 7 is installed now & the mouse & keyboard are detectible, BUT...

1. The numblock on restart is enabled in bios, but it's not working. My keyboard is always off. Thoughts?
2. What's worse, my mouse Logitech M100 is dragging & one minute the one click works, the next it doesn't & I have to double click or I single click on a file in Win explor & it double clicks. sigh

We've already installed the chipset drivers & rebooted 2-3 times & it's dragging & when I adjust the settings in pointer settings, it starts to drag again.

Please help, it's hurting my wrist & fingers & this mouse is fine, it worked fine on the new SSD & the old SSD (beofre putting Win 7 now on NVMe) and it works on the terrible laptop that has Win 10 on it.

I even put it in another port & again it started dragging.

It drags less on some apps, but on SK & TG it drags.

My BEST mouse is a MS ergonomic mouse 9 PIN from 1996. MS is a terrible company, but for some reason they make good natural keyboards & that mouse.

Unfortunately here in Mx someone stole things from my room or house & they stole 2 mice with 2 stands AND my USB converter & every converter I purchase (3 so far) doesn't work. That USB converter was a non name from 2004 I think.

If you have any suggestions, please LMK. Saberter (sp?) wouldn't even refund me, so I lost money. The other brand was nice enough to refund me.

It never hurts my hands, allows me to work really fast, the only download is the scrollbar, but I don't love scrollwars.

But in the meantime, I need this logitch mouse to work. This isn't normal AND now that I'm typing more text, I can tell that the keyboard isn't working properly. I'm having to press down more on the keys then I did before. sigh

Something is very wrong. :(

Here's the link if anyone else needs it - [redacted]

Mod Note: Removed URL from Wayback Machine (archive.org), per forum rules about linking to modified ISO's. You can search on your own for ISO's on their site. Thanks.

Thanks again

Really, WOW, not many people want to DL Win 7, kudos to you.

What does 4K sectors mean? Could that be why the mouse & keyboard aren't working properly? :(

So you didn't install it, you used Win 10?

NumLock may be set in BIOS, but Windows can sometimes clear the setting.

To force NumLock on, add this reg file to Post-Setup (Before logon):
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard]
"InitialKeyboardIndicators"=dword:00000002

2. What's worse, my mouse Logitech M100 is dragging & one minute the one click works, the next it doesn't & I have to double click or I single click on a file in Win explor & it double clicks. sigh
That might be a sign to try a different USB3 driver that's better suited for this motherboard.

Chipset "drivers" don't really do anything but provide descriptive labels in Device Manager. Otherwise you get a stack of Yellow X's.
Most Intel chipset drivers are really a placebo. The real ones are for USB, Ethernet or Wi-Fi/Bluetooth drivers.

That's a drive formated with Native 4K sectors, as opposed to 512e(mulated). Some (many) SSDs have 2 or more 'modes' of how they present themselves to the operating system (regarding to sector size). I followed this guide to convert it (on Linux booted from USB pen). There are no advantages in speed, but hopefully less translation is ocurring, so less heat. Hopefully. :) But anyway, I always prefer direct approach rather than emulated, because 4k is native on my drives (and probably most of SSDs). Only later did I find out that Win7 can't be installed on such a drive.

It doesn't have anything to do with the mouse and keyboard. And, BTW, I haven't tested any PS/2 peripherals on mine simply because I don't have any.

I installed Win10.

Which ones are those?

These?

I'm confused, you mean the NVMe I have? It's WD btw, I got it to install on here, but maybe this 4K sectors is an issue now for me with the mouse & keyboard issue & now I'm having ShareX issues (didn't on the other MB & SSD) where I can't login into MEGA for my videos & it just hangs & I hvae to end task. :(

Yeh, well we will see if the HP PS2 mouse works when it arrives next week, but I don't need it. Although I'm wondering if it will solve the mouse problems, but I don't want to be forced to use it, & I'm HOPING different drivers solves this problem b/c I can't type properly now.

That HP mouse looks almost the same as the logitech which fits my hand nice enough.

Thanks

Ok, that part is all greek to me, but I get it.

I really only need the good/right USB ones & Ethernet which we already installed. Wifi & BT I don't use.

Thanks
