Will Custom cleanup mode clear the residual files?

After removing Internet Explorer with dism mode, the IE folder under Program Files will disappear, but the IE folder under ProgramFiles (x86) will be left, and a file ie9props.propdesc will be left in this folder. The result of switching to custom mode with the same preset will not change. So what is the difference between dism mode and custom mode?

DISM cleanup modes will only change how files are removed from the WinSxS folders.

When important features like IE11 are removed, NTLite sometimes has to leave behind specific folders or files to protect other Windows features from breaking. Those files are expected by non-IE11 processes to exist.

A couple of "IE11" files are used for Windows Explorer(which is part of MS's BS excuse that they cant remove Internet Explorer from windows).
If you ask is ie11 being removed the answer is yes, technically No, for the above reason.
If you dism(without ntlite) remove IE it will remove the files required by windows explorer so every folder you click on will open in a new window and it is bloody annoying to say the least.

Do you mean the custom mode is capable of deeper cleaning if necessary? I tried removing other components but didn't find any difference between it and dism mode, and NTLite's documentation didn't mention any instructions about custom mode.

Cleaning only applies to superseded (replaced) component files. It has nothing to do with component removals.

- You can remove components, but not clean up the WinSxS component store.
- You can clean up the WinSxS component store, but not remove any components.
- You can remove components, and also clean up the WinSxS component store.
