is there a setting for this somewhere to stop this blocking or a component?
i want to stick with v5.32 because v6.24 is a lot bigger - 5.93MB v 43.3MB.
makes me wonder what else ms have slipped in :/

i use old programs for certain reasons, they work and not because they are cracked, they were all free.
i could say the same about using old operating systems. if this cant be fixed hey ho it was good while it lasted.

The official Q&A here.

CCleaner installer is written in NSIS, which you can simply extract with a tool like 7-Zip. I have checked that besides the new features, the size bloat comes mainly from bundling both 32-bit and 64-bit binaries in the installer.

I personally see no points in using CCleaner. I find that running "cleanmgr.exe" that comes with Windows is enough for most of my safe-cleaning tasks, and CCleaner does not support 80% of my installed apps anyways (mostly games and photography tools).

the sizes are the programs themselves, not the installers and 7zip extracts the installers without a problem.
ccleaner with winapps 2 and 3 are a good way to find stuff, caches logs and space hogs to disable and its great for adding custom files and folders to clean. it all depends how you use it.

1 is the extracted program folders, 2 is the exes themselves.

For old computers and systems, I usually use a modified version (simplified version) of the new version, such as using Office 2016 in Windows 8.1, retaining only Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and deleting many useless telemetry and templates.
You can find a simplified version of ccleaner's 6. x. The new version will have better cleaning rules and more features. It also has lower memory and space usage.

i know about the slims and portables. 5.32 is hard to find in any form so i use the link that garlin provided on the wayback machine.

I don't use it. If I had to choose, I would choose BleachBit as it contains a much newer database and supports cleaning more apps. It is completely free and open source too.

Though at most these apps would free 5-10GB of space, which is negligible for me.

This tool is used by experts. Bleachbit deleted my local directly, and the Chinese language exploded. Dolphi is half Chinese and half English. I can only do it by reinstalling all the software.
It has to be said that Bleachbit's cleaning is indeed deep.
There is also a SpaceSniffer that I dare not use.
