Windows 12 Rumors

I think the main concern will be how fat these operating systems are becoming, and not because of performance, but rather dependencies.
Haven't noticed any major differences in complexity from Win7 to 11, maybe you're referring to Metro/Modern apps becoming the part of the OS since Win8.1.
Maybe you have a few examples, especially ideas for compatibility sets.
If the complexity becomes an issue, we can focus on online presets for components, compatibility and settings, maybe people voting on component issues etc.
But haven't seen any need for it compared to the other requests. Templates seem ok to start with a desired depth of removals, that one was obviously needed.

At some point Microsoft needs to rebuild Windows from the ground up.
They always promise that, but the codebase is too big and expensive. For example they change some small thing around drivers and millions of people have issues, slowing the adoptment.
Changes will probably be in the shipped component list and a layer on top, and an obligatory new UI.
We still have references to the DOS, and compatibility is the main advantage of Windows.

Jeff at Craft Computing complained about w10 PROFESSIONAL having roblox, i agree.
MS need to look at each edition and only have stuff relevant to the target users.

Home Edition should have all the glitz n schmitz bling social media type stuff, advertising/news/weather/etc apps.

Professional Edition should not have home edition glitz stuff. roblox, really? Web Browser and Media player "features" disabled by default.

Enterprise Edition, couldnt they combine Ent and Pro into a single edition? do we really need 2 editions to cover the same features?

Allow users to change locations of Driver Store/Repository and Winsxs so we could store them on iso's(dvd or blu ray) and mount them to specific drive letters as and when needed?

Kill off .Net Frameworks ONCE AND FOR ALL

A-FREAKIN-MEN

When it comes out we will be discussing 13, as Microsoft are going to a rapid release model for major versions. They really dont like people sticking to one version for too long.

I dread to think how bad 12 is going to be, the UI is massively going to mobile UI mode.

I hear you on .NET clanger, I think in 10 years one might have 10 versions of .NET installed due to a new one coming out really often, but having to keep old one's for older apps. I have 7 versions of visual C++ for the same reason. (2005,2008,2010,2012,2013,2015,2022).

Hirens boot cd, tried to run heidocs iso download tool for a dell iso, wont run cos of missing .net :mad::mad:
Agree on the c++'s.
12 wont just be bad, it will be beyond bloody awful.

rumoured release for '12' and i am calling it 12 loosely is somewhere around later parts of 2024 . there are some supposed 'leaks' but tbh at at this stage i wouldn't take anything for granted. hell, they can't even get 11 solid.

so much for their ' windows 10 is the last operating system' BS
