Windows Subsystem For Linux Why Not?

I was building another installer the other day, for the new 1709 Build, and saw the Component "Windows Subsystem For Linux" and, without thinking it through very much, I clicked it. I have used it a few times before so why not?

Well, it completely breaks the process, so don't check that stupid box. You will get a terrible error message telling you that "The image is damaged" but it's not. You just clicked the "Windows Subsystem For Linux" checkbox that doesn't even make sense to have in the first place.
 
I think that on 1607 it is beta, so check on your build. It can be removed on 1607 with NTLite and by package removal, 4 packages - Microsoft-Windows-Lxss-Package xxxxxx
 
@gt_, I presume you meant Feature enabling, not component removing?
If so, were components previously removed on that image, do you have the preset?

This is an old post, but this is still an issue. I also got this error by simply enabling the "Windows subsystem for linux" option and adding the component to the image. After I first got the error, I even tried deleting the contents of the Wim source folder and extracting a fresh source folder right from the iso. I mounted the source folder again, used the autosave entry that had saved the configurations I made (attached to this post), and it generated the error again (also attached to this post). The fact that this was reported a full month ago and has not been fixed is kind of unacceptable for those who have paid for this product. You really need to get it fixed and update the STABLE release of the product with the fix, as the current stable version is anything but.
 
What? WSL is disabled by Microsoft (via patch) for versions 1607 and below (bash will not run)
 
@whiggs, thanks for reporting, will check that feature enabling after removing your preset components, and report back how it went.
 
5930 build is up, should be better, if not please attach the new preset.
Btw keep the Windows Update compatibility enabled.
