AvastUI failed to load, among other issues...

Hi,

I just bought the home license yesterday. Everything works brilliantly as expected. I slimmed down a Windows 10 LTSB 2016 x64 .ISO. I installed the .ISO on my VM, and all cumulative updates install just fine, so huge thanks to the dev for that. However...

When I tried to install Avast, there were problems. The installation proceeded just fine. Yet, when it finishes, nothing happens. The AvastUI couldn't load, and any attempt to load it manually would result in the process getting killed after a few seconds with no error dialog boxes whatsoever.

Also:
- I get "error 2" (0x80070002) when I run dism /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase - after the command progressed 98%. Is this normal?
- I get error 0x80073701 when I install something (e.g DirectPlay) through Windows Features. I used the search function and in old threads it was suggested that this is a downside of NTLite. Is this still the case in the newest version of NTLite?

Thanks in advance and any help is appreciated. I have attached below my preset.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, avast shields and services still run just fine. It's just the UI that doesn't load.

I don't use Win10. Could it be, though, that the latest updates to Win10 prevent Avast? I vaguely recall reading something recently about a "war" between M$ and anti-virus companies. (I think some AV products try to hook into the kernel. And M$ is trying to stop that.) I presume that you've tested a Win10 with the updates only to see if AV works in that scenario?

it works fine if i don't remove anything. So it must be a component. I just don't know what.

Welcome to the club. I take half my changes out, and see what happens. If that works, then I put in half of the half, etc.

I suppose with NTLite 1.6 you could speed up the process by working one half in one instance and the other half in the other instance.

Will be interesting to hear what you find.

I looked at your Preset. My guess is Active-X.

Well, whatever your reason may have been, I have discovered that Avast UI has nothing to do with ActiveX...

Anyone got any other ideas?

Its noy gonna be languages keyboards fonts or windows media player stuff. So its networking or system stuff causing the problem. At the moment you are having the sdame problems pmikep had when hunting down an issue, jumping around like Michael Flately on speed.

Do a live removals test. Install w10, then start removing components either 1 at a time or in groups of 4 at a time, you will soon find what is breaking avast.

Sorry I was wrong about Active-X. I was thinking that, since some AV's insert Certificates into your system (to watch SSL stuff go by) that maybe Active X was a necessary component. I think Clanger is correct that it's not a missing font or keyboard.

I see you've removed something called MSRDC-Infrastructure. I did a quick Internet search for that and Avast and got some hits.

Anyway, you either do it Clanger's way, removing one to four items at a time. Or you do a Simpson's Rule kind of attack, taking half steps. Either way, probably a few iterations until you find it. (Hopefully it's only one item that's causing the issue. But sometimes a program needs multiple items.)

The simpsons rule is biting random chunks, you can be biting for ages. I did see a couple of possibles in the preset but he will be building and installing and probabebly not get a result. one 12hour session of live removals and he will solve it. I had to back track on a preset many times to solve issues using live removals and i always hit paydirt.

Actually i would run stage2 as it is(but keep US language and keyboard) because Drums is using en-us and it was written on en-gb and on ltsb he should see 3.9gb installed size.

A little update: I've found out that the component belongs to the "system" section of the component removal page. I've attached the newest preset.

System narrows it down a bit, my moneys on
Interactive Services Detection
RPC Locator
Security Centre
WMI Tools

All of those things I kept. It has to be one of the 12 components in the preset. Which all looked like harmless components tbh.

Its gonna be one of this lot, i am just going to have a look at their component notes, got ltsb loaded.
containers</c>

HyperV and sub componets, its one of them. Keep all hyperV

That would be very strange. I have always removed Hyper-V with MSMG Toolkit and Avast works fine. Maybe this is a bug?
