Preset for a very low end laptop used ONLY for browsing

My apologies if asked before but the search function wasn''t of much use and I also discovered NTlite hours ago.

I have an extremely low end laptop with a Celeron 1.2 ghz dual core, an nvme ssd, no threads and 4gb ram max. It's a work pc and all I do is browse the web and use notepad. I want to remove as much as I can and still be usable. I only care about security (ish) but I can use it without too. And wifi, I use wifi, obviously.

I tried making one myself but I still have edge, news, weather, 130 processes running, cortana, search. Even tho I specifically removed them when making the iso. The image is a windows 10 latest ENTERPRISE IOT build available from UUP.

Thank you in advance!

IoT isn't supported by NTLite, but the problem you probably ran into was that you are on the free version which removes less. If you're on a paid version, attach the preset you used so we can see why your results were this way. Edit your preset and remove passwords/licenses before posting.

See this guide (link) for help on picking a preset to reduce overhead with. If all you truly need is a browser, notepad, and Wi-Fi, you can actually remove a ton from Windows, but everything else will break, so keep that in mind.

Laptops have far more overhead than an equal desktop counterpart, because laptops have many extra drivers and those all get installed automatically from Windows Update unless you disable that. About half of laptop drivers are optional and don't really add any noticeable functionality, so it's worth going through them manually and figuring out what you need. Also, don't use driver assistant apps, since they add bugs and bloat.

A Celeron is a terrible cpu unless it's in a very clean os. It requires a lot of work at lease when I worked with them to get them decent.

There is still some amazing win7 builds I used before that can still be usable on weaker hardware. Unfortunately it's really gone off the wayside for most things.

Should be able to do a lot with it yet though.

Well this depends. Some websites with higher security requirements (ie. banking or finance sites) will object and insist you use a more recent client version, which won't run on W7. Your results may vary.

Yes very well depends on usage!

This depends on which is more limited, your disk space or the maximum RAM capacity on this PC. Increasing from 4GB to 8GB will likely help performance a lot, but if disk space is more restricted then a 32-bit OS can take up less disk space since you don't need both 32-bit and 64-bit copies of system files.

Would you consider trying out Linux distros that require less RAM than Windows and still fulfill your web browsing requirement?
